The Flash Season 3: Detective Eddie Thawne Is Back; What Does This Mean

The Flash Season 3 is returning on CW and it will also bring a dead character. Actor Rick Cosnett broke the news on Twitter that he is coming back to the show. There is still no clarity about which character will reprise in the upcoming season.

Most bets are on Detective Eddie Thawne coming back to The Flash Season 3. The Flash stars Grant Gustin as Barry Allen/The Flash, Candice Patton as Iris West, Rick Cosnett as Eddie Thawne among others.

What’s in store for The Flash Season 3?

The mid-season premiere for The Flash Season 3 hits the television screens on Jan. 24. The whole of Season 3 will have 23 episodes. It is not an unfamiliar territory for the makers to bring a dead character back.

Rick Cosnett just announced his return but he did not mention in what capacity he is returning. His tweet reads, “Ok, hate to tease you but now I can say it:  I’m coming back on #TheFlash.” The problem here is not many can join the dots about how Eddie Thawne will return to the show.

A little recap and one knows that Eddie Thawne sacrifices himself at the end of Season 1. With that episode, he messed up the Thawne bloodline. However, he returned in Season 2 when Flash returned back in time.

Cinema Blend reports that one of the possibilities of Eddie Thawne returning could be another flashback. There are chances that Eddie could show up as a hallucination of Barry’s (or another character). In the present plot, Barry has gotten help from Earth-3’s Jay Garrick. Eddie could be seen in the other-dimensional location as well.

Reports suggest that Spencer A. Harvey and Lloyd Harvey will be directing the episode which sees Rick Cosnett returning to the show. The TV series is based on DC Comics character Barry Allen / Flash. The story is a spin-off from Arrow, existing in the same fictional universe.

The Flash returns on Jan. 24 at 8 pm ET on The CW.
