Nick Viall is making sure that the ratings are coming in steady for The Bachelor. Rachel Lindsay is next in line to ascertain high ratings for The Bachelorette. It was rather surprising to see ABC make the move of announcing the protagonist even as she was competing with the rest to woo The Bachelor this season.

Rachel Lindsay is still on The Bachelor amongst other contestants like Corrine, Rachel, Raven and Vanessa. But it is clear that she won’t be Nick’s ladylove now since she is the Bachelorette 2017. One of the factors that is widely discussed about Rachel’s selection on the show was her race.

With Rachel Lindsay coming in as The Bachelorette, it will be the first time that an African American will be helming the show. Viewers watching the Bachelor might  be experiencing confusion now now. They are seeing Rachel and Viall going strong but they know they are not going to end up together.

ABC has been lauded for casting the first Black Bachelorette after 33 combined seasons. Rachel Lindsay says, “Yes it is, but you know, we’re a couple of weeks out from filming, we’re ready to get this started. I’m ready to find love, find a husband so if you know anybody out there who needs to apply, sign up, go ahead and get started!”

In the most recent episode of The Bachelor, the viewers get a sneak peek into Rachel Lindsay’s family. Nick visits the hometown of each of the finalists in the upcoming episodes. Rachel and Nick are seen in Hoxie, Arkansas where the latter is trying to make a connection with the former’s family.

Rachel Lindsay holds a degree in Kinesiology and Sports Management from the University of Texas. She has also gone to law school at Marquette University and is currently practicing law in Dallas. Nick also visited Rachel’s church when he was in Arkansas. Her family consists of devout Christians and she also said that she has a strict father, reports Heavy. Even before the reality show has begun, Rachel is already creating history.

Rachel Lindsay became the first black contestant to ever win the first-impression rose. She is also the first black woman cast as The Bachelorette. She is also one of Jennifer Aniston’s top favorites on the show.
