Stranger Things Season 2: What to Expect

Stranger Things was up for the Golden Globe for Best TV Drama last night, and the Hawkins kids showed up looking spiffy for it. Ultimately, the show lost to a fellow Netflix show – The Crown. Still, Hopes for the show’s future remain optimistic as ever. And with Stranger Things Season 2 on the way, this year, the excitement grows stronger for whatever’s next for Mike, Eleven, and their pals.

Confirmation of Stranger Things Season 2, triggered speculations among the fans on how the show would proceed. Given the confirmed facts and unconfirmed rumors so far, we’ve put together everything you can expect for the next season below. WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Season 1.

The Bigger Picture

We’ll see the story resume in the fall of 1984, a year after the first season’s events. Will Byers may now be safely back home. But the Duffer brothers have pretty much confirmed the existence of a ‘greater mythology’ surrounding the nature of his disappearance. Will’s kidnapping by the monster of the Upside Down left as many questions as answers. How else does the Upside Down affect the real world? Since Dr. Brenner’s facility has studied it longer than most, what do they know that we don’t? And what does Will’s hallucination of the other world in the last scene mean?

To explore those questions, the Duffers say that the series will expand its reaches beyond the town of Hawkins, Indiana. Looks like we might see what the Upside Down looks like in other towns or cities now. And maybe we’ll see if the beast – the ‘Demogorgon’ – has wreaked havoc there as well.

The Good News? We’re looking at the return of Eleven (Millie Bobbie Brown). Worried that she totally vaporized herself along with the monster during last season’s finale? Perhaps, she’d just sent herself to some far-flung reach of the Upside Down!

New Faces in Town

Stranger Things Season 2 will bring new faces into the mix, as Mic reports that three new characters have been named. There’s tough, 13-year-old skateboarder Max! Accompanying her is her stepbrother Billy, who likes to “steal people’s girlfriends” and drives a black Camarro. Looks like they needed someone to replace Steve to bully people around. And finally there’s Roman, a vengeance-seeking 30 something years old with apparent social issues.

Max and Billy sound like they’d get along splendidly with Mike, Nancy and friends. Of course, by that, we mean “cause lots of plot-moving trouble”. But Roman in particular is intriguing: they’re meant to have suffered some kind of early loss, according to TV Line. We haven’t had any characters yet, besides Eleven and Brenner, who have some connections to the show’s supernatural face. Could Roman have something to do with that?

Well, the episode titles give further hints, but just not enough to figure things out just yet. The episode titles are: Madmax, The Boy Who Came Back To Life, The Pumpkin Patch, The Palace, The Storm, The Pollywog, The Secret Cabin, The Brain, and The Lost Brother.
