Sherlock Season 4: Release Date, Updates, News, And More

Sherlock Season 4 will not be the last season for the hit BBC show despite claims that there won’t be a fifth season. Season 4 will premiere on Jan. 1 and will commence on Jan. 15. There will be a total of three episodes.

Fans have been waiting since 2014 for the fourth season of the hit series that stars Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange) and Martin Freeman (Captain America: Civil War). Its two stars have been busy with various movie projects, though, which led to the delay in production. The series was supposed to re-air in 2016, but this was moved to January 2017 instead.

But creator Steven Moffat said in a separate interview that the actor was simply misquoted and misunderstood. What Cumberbatch meant to say was that it was hard to get all the creators and the cast back together because they are busy with their own lives and individual projects. He explained that the actor was very “keen” to carry on with the show.

Cumberbatch himself told USA Today, as quoted by Comic Book, that the journalists tried to make something sensational about what he said. He added that it was all to gain “clicks” for their articles.

Sherlock Season 4 release date and storyline

Whether or not Season 4 will be the last installment of the series remains to be seen. But for fans, they are focused on the Jan. 1 premiere with the episode The Six Thatchers. The next episode will be on Jan. 8 (The Lying Detective) while the series will commence with The Final Problem on Jan. 15.

It can be recalled that in January 2016, we were gifted with the 90-minute The Abominable Bride, which further whetted our appetite for Sherlock Season 4. Little did we know at that time that the wait will take us another one year.
