Miguel Ferrer Dead: NCIS LA Lost Owen Granger For Real

Actor Miguel Ferrer has passed away at the age of 61, after a battle with throat cancer. The news reporting Miguel Ferrer dead comes after months of speculation over the actor’s health condition. He is survived by his wife, Lori, and two sons, Lukas and Rafi.

Ferrer was best known in recent years for playing Owen Granger on NCIS Los Angeles. He’s been onboard the long running police drama since its third season. Now the show is headed toward its season 8 finale, and Owen Granger has been lost for real.

“Today, NCIS Los Angeles lost a beloved family member,” showrunner R. Scott Gemmill said in a statement, on behalf of the entire production team. “Miguel was a man of tremendous talent who had a powerful dramatic presence onscreen, a wicked sense of humor, and a huge heart. Our thoughts go out to his wife, his sons, and his entire family. He will be greatly missed.”

In the months prior to the actor’s tragic passing, rumors about Ferrer’s deteriorating health were already abound. Viewers noticed that his speech had been slurring in episodes, and his complexion looked a little off.

Some astute fans pointed out that it wasn’t just Owen Granger who seemed to be experiencing the health issues, but Ferrer himself. This led to predictions of the character being killed off the show, allowing Ferrer time off to prioritize his health.

However, with the cast and crew totally silent on the matter, no one could confirm the reality of the situation. With the news reporting Miguel Ferrer dead, the worst of those rumors have come true. Ferrer’s death marks another case of cancer-related deaths in his family; his father and mother likewise passed away due to the disease.

Miguel Ferrer Dead – A Legacy Left Behind

Aside from playing Owen Granger, Ferrer was known as Bob Morton from the original Robocop. He’s also played Albert Rosenfield in Twin Peaks since its 1992 run, voiced Shan Yu in Disney’s Mulan, and Dr. Garret Macy on Crossing Jordan.

And despite being known for his villainous roles, Ferrer was known as a bright light among his family and colleagues. “Miguel made the world funnier and brighter,” his cousin, fellow actor George Clooney said in a statement. “His passing is felt so deeply in our family that events of the day, monumental events, pale in comparison.”
