Marvel’s The Inhumans: Game of Thrones’ Iwan Rheon Cast As Power-Hungry Villain Again

He’s going from one evil, power-hungry villain to the other. Iwan Rheon, who shot into fame with his magnificent and dastardly portrayal of Game of Thrones’ Ramsay Bolton, has been cast in Marvel’s The Inhumans . He’ll be playing Maximus, the brother of Black Bolt and an antagonist in the comics. His nickname? Maximus the Mad.

According to the official release of Marvel, “Maximus is a clever and charming Inhuman that is fiercely devoted to the people of Attilan, especially his brother the King – although he harbors an intense desire to wear the crown himself.” Sounds appropriate for the man who spent a few seasons obsessed with being the Lord of Winterfell.

A History: Marvel’s The Inhumans

Marvel’s The Inhumans first appeared in the comics in the 1960’s, and focused mainly on the Inhumans Royal Family. The group formed as a result of the Kree experimenting on and terraforming the early humans of Earth. The hero and crown heir, Black Bolt, had the ability to produce a sonic scream. However, using it one day caused a disaster that forced him into exile. In his absence, Maximus stepped up and took the crown.

Maximus would then plot to destroy human life, in the belief that the Inhumans were the superior life from on Earth. Black Bolt would eventually return to vie for the crown.

While The Inhumans was initially intended to feature in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a film of its own, it was eventually pulled from the schedule. Now, it will take the form of a TV series instead.

The Inhumans themselves were first introduced in an episode of Marvel’s Agent of SHIELD. Their presence was first hinted when Chloe Bennet’s Skye evolved into the Inhuman Quake. Now, some other characters are undergoing the terrigenesis process, hinting the appearance of more Inhumans in the future.

As shared by TV Line, the first two episodes of the show will premiere in IMAX theaters during a two-week period in early September. The series will premiere shortly afterward, but will stand completely on ts own, separate from Agents of SHIELD.

Villain Among Villains

Iwan Rheon’s depicton of Maximus will certainly be worth seeing, given his track record with eye-catching villains. We already mentioned the infamous Ramsay Bolton, arguably the single most hated character in the Game of Thrones series. However, he’ll also be portraying Adolf Hitler in an upcoming episode of Urban Myths.

He’s also played the moody Simon Bellamy in Misfits, and Ash Weston in Vicious.

Marvel’s The Inhumans will premiere on Sept. 26, 2017.
