Nielsen Korea also reported that competing shows Oh My Geum Bi from KBS garnered 5.5% of the audience while Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo attracted 4.6%.
Han Cinema reported that the reason why the sixth episode was so successful was because of Lee Min Ho’s romantic confession to his leading lady Jun Ji Hyun. In the scene, Joon-jae (Min Ho) brought Chung (Ji Hyun) to a ski resort. After helping her with her shoes, Joon-jae suddenly hugs Chung and says “I love you”. Fans of the show swooned, resulting into that scene earning about 25% of the audience viewership for that time slot.

Why is the show so popular?
There are many factors why a TV show gains high ratings. These could be the season it was released, the plot, and how the actors portrayed the characters among many others. However, it without doubt that SBS’ latest drama’s success can be attributed to Lee Min Ho and Jun Ji Hyun.
It has been three years since Lee Min Ho starred in any drama. His last one, called The Heirs, aired its last episode on December 12, 2013. Fans have been waiting for the actor to appear in the small screen. In addition to that, Jun Ji Hyun is also outstanding in portraying her character as an innocent mermaid learning the ways of human beings. Their chemistry may also be the reason why fans swoon for the pairing.
