Girl Meets World Cancellation: What’s Next For Rowan Blanchard

With Disney opting to no longer renew Girl Meets World, Rowan Blanchard is moving on. The 15-year-old actress will soon be making an appearance on The Goldbergs, ABC’s sitcom. She will be showing up in a season 4 episode, premiering sometime in early Spring 2017.

Just a month ago, Disney confirmed its cancellation of Girl Meets World after 3 seasons. Up until that time, the cast lobbied strongly for the series’ continuation. Few people made a stronger plea for that than Rowan Blanchard herself, who appealed to the show’s loyal fanbase to make their voices heard.

Unfortunately, the plug was still pulled, and the series took its final bow on Jan. 20, 2017. But while Riley Matthews’s coming-of-age story has seen its onscreen finale, Rowan Blanchard’s real life journey into adulthood will continue with her making her way into new roles.

Now Your World

As the series was cancelled, Blanchard took to Twitter to express herself in a note addressed to the show’s fans. In the note, she writes about the significance of the show to her life and the profound effect it has had on her as a teenager.

Here’s a brief excerpt from her note:

Being on Girl Meets World is the most significant event in my life thus far, it changed absolutely every aspect of it… It is with this cast family I experienced mourning and heartbreak and overjoyment and long days that turned into long nights, each and every moment so painstakingly beautiful…

I am so honored to call you our audience. You allowed a dream to breathe. You have given us so much… and for that we genuinely will never be able to repay you…

I love this world we made. I love that it is now your world.

Girl Meets World… In The 80’s

The Girl Meets World star will enter a different kind of world now – one of the 1980’s. On The Goldbergs, Rowan Blanchard will be playing Aliza, the editor of a student-run sci-fi fantasy magazine at William Penn Academy, according to TV Line.

“Sci-fi fantasy” also seems like the right words to describe Blanchard’s future. She’s set to star in A Wrinkle In Time, the live-action adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s sci fi fantasy novel. That film will be Blanchard’s reunion with Disney, and will put her alongside Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, and Chris Pine. It’s being directed by Ava DuVernay, known for her work on Selma, will release in April of 2018.
