For years, many people have gotten into the hobby of dressing up as their favorite iconic idols. From animé characters, to video game personalities, the possibilities are endless and in flux of creativity is amazing. Now, the cosplay mania just got more interesting with the announcement of a new TV show entirely dedicated to the craft. The Syfy network will be launching Cosplay Melee, the newest costume competition reality show.
Cosplay Melee: Here’s What You Need To Know
According to a report from Deadline, the newest Syfy network program will largely revolve around the cosplay business. The reality competition series Cosplay Melee will pit the best costume performers against each other for a grand prize of $10,000. Community star and “super fan girl” Yvette Nicole Brown is set to host the show, which hits small screens on Tuesday, Marh 21 at 10/9c. Each week, also earn bragging rights as they inch closer to cosplay supremacy.
“As a huge fan of the creativity cosplayers bring to their craft, nothing makes me happier than having a front row seat for the amazing creations set to hit the Cosplay Melee runway, Brown said. “These talented artists are going to shine!”
Brown rose to fame after she starred on Girlfriends. She is currently starring in The New Edition Story and the reboot of The Odd Couple. Her career has also spanned her involvement in the Percy Jackson sequel, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters. Brown has also voiced several characters in shows like Pound Puppies, Family Guy, and most recently, Yellowbird.

Cosplay Melee Features Industry’s Top Names
Just like any other fashion-centric show, there will be judges to critique each contestant’s work. As per the same outlet, the panel includes renowned cosplayer LeeAnna Vamp and popular costume creator Christian Beckman.
Each week, four competitors will create full body character costumes. Then, they will take the catwalk to grace their creations because “no character just stands there.”
“Cosplay is passion, artistry, engineering and theater all rolled into one,” Syfy senior vice president Heather Olander said in a statement. “At the intersection of the maker world and fandom, the incredible artists of Cosplay Melee will blow your minds with their transformational creations.”
Moreover, Jay Peterson and Todd Lubin of Matador Content, the company behind Lip Sync Battle, will serve as executive producers. Cosplay Melee will premiere on Syfy network on March 21.
