Code Geass recently celebrated its 10th anniversary last Sunday. Sunrise announced its early Christmas gift to their Code Geass loyal fans; a sequel entitled Code Geass: Lelouch of the Resurrection.
Whether the latest installment is a movie or a series isn’t clear yet. The story takes place several years after Zero Requiem and Lelouch V. Britannia is alive but there is no information about CC yet. The staff confirmed that it is Lelouch himself and not a clone or from an alternate dimension.
Sunrise gave fans exclusive tickets and invitation to the event. The invitation has a decoded message that reads “Rebirth of the Demon”. The event also featured a promotional video with the characters Jerimiah, Suzaku Kururugi, Kallen and other characters. Bandai’s Anime Channel Service will stream the event on December 23 at noon.
Film Trilogy will be released in 2017
A DVD and Blu-ray Disc release on April 21, 2017 will follow the event streaming which includes the stage performance, a picture drama that debuted at the event, the promotional video and a new short film. The three part film series recaps the 50 episodes of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion and Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion 2; but the entire cast will be re-recording all their lines while new scenes will be added.

Where is CC?
While the promotional video does not include CC, a promotional art released by the anime’s character designer Takahiro Kimura Shows CC in the background. The promotional art has subtle yet observable changes in the character design like Lelouch’s hair and Kallen’s face. CC also looks younger and with a candid expression, something that is very different from what we have seen from the original series. This may be because Kimura’s art style may have changed over the last year to keep up with the modern animation style or this could be a clue to a significant event in the upcoming installment.
Code Geass series is one of the several anime that has gathered worldwide popularity and is considered a classic. The anime challenges the morals of the present society and at the same time executed it really well. The open-ended anime finale left some questions unanswered and fans await the new addition to the story.
