Good news and bad news, 12 Monkey fans. Good news first, the series is renewed for a fourth season. The bad news, it’s their last. The end has come for James Cole and Cassandra Reilly. While our hearts mourn for this, we still have two seasons to enjoy their company.
12 Monkeys will return to your television screens on May 19 for their third season. Deadline reports that rather than release an episode every week, the network will air the episodes differently.
Syfy’s 12 Monkeys Airs 10 Episodes In Three Nights!
12 Monkeys’ Season 3 10-episode series will air on three consecutive nights only. It starts on May 19 where four episodes will be aired. After that, three consecutive episodes will be release on both Saturday (May 20) and Sunday (May 21) from 8 to 11 P.M. Eastern Time.
The outlet notes that NBCUniversal President of Entertainment Chris McCumber believes the show is perfect for this kind of release. “With its time-twisting themes and edge-of-your-seat storyline, 12 Monkeys is the perfect show to air this way,” says McCumber.

Meanwhile, Entertainment Weekly reports that NBCUniversal is thrilled to offer their fans the ability to binge-watch the third season. NBC Universal’s Jeff Wachtel sees the consecutive release as a “reward” to 12 Monkey fans for their support.
Wachtel added that while they look forward to watching Season 3, they also want to see how 12 Monkeys Creator Terry Matalas plans to conclude the series. Similar to its third season, 12 Monkeys Season 4 will consist of 10 episodes. Looks like fans need to wait a bit and focus on what Season 3 has in store for them.
12 Monkeys Season 3 Spoilers
Matalas told the outlet that Season 3 picks up months after the Army of the 12 Monkeys kidnapped Cassandra (Amanda Schull). In Season 2, the army found out that Schull is the mother of the Witness. For avid viewers, they would notice the pattern each season. The first season featured the fathers, while the second season focused on mothers.
The show’s creator revealed that for 12 Monkeys‘ upcoming season, the series will tackle the plight of children. “It’s very much the life of one child as the show really explores what it means for these characters to have any kind of notion of family,” said the creator.
Matalas added that in Season 3, viewers will witness the “birth of the Army of the 12 Monkeys and how the cult came together.” In addition, Matalas revealed that Christopher Lloyd will return to the series in Season 3’s sixth episode. Syfy’s 12 Monkeys Season 3 will air on May 19 at 8 PM, while Season 4 will debut in 2018.
