While the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons prepare for the Super Bowl 2017 game, Lady Gaga is doing some preparations of her own. The singer is gearing up for the halftime show, the annual performance that takes place at football’s biggest event. She spoke recently at a halftime show press conference to share some of the details, without giving away too much.
“I am going to have to say that the preparation for this show is the show business version of the athlete,” Gaga said. It’s an apparent promise that the show isn’t about to be eclipsed by the last few Super Bowl halftime performances – headlined by the likes of Beyoncé and Katy Perry. “Myself and my dancers have been training for months.”
No Wardrobe Malfunction Here
Super Bowl 2017 (otherwise known as Super Bowl LI) will take place in the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. Those familiar with the last Super Bowl held in Houston, back in 2004, will remember the infamous halftime show, where Justice Timberlake accidentally exposed Janet Jackson’s breast onstage. It seems like Lady Gaga is aware of that nip slip as well, because this time, she’s not taking any chances.
“Everything is going to be nice and tight. I wouldn’t worry about that,” she said. Lady Gaga has often been known for outrageous and unusual costumes. She’s done every from donning a meat dress, to dressing herself as a big metallic star. We’ll assume that her wardrobe team is spending as much time on her get-up as she is on her performance.
The set list for the 13-minute performance is also a secret at the moment. However, Gaga hinted that she’ll be performing songs from every phase of her career. We could hear some of her pop and electronic signatures like Poker Face and Just Dance. We might get some of the more acoustic sounds of Joanne as well.
Besides Lady Gaga, a few other names will be performing at Super Bowl 2017. To kick things off, Luke Bryan will be singing the national anthem.
Lady Gaga will be joined on stage by Tony Bennett, with whom Gaga recorded Cheek to Cheek with in 2014. That collaboration earned Lady Gaga’s sixth Grammy Award.
Finally, Phillipa Soo, Renee Elise Goldsberry, and Jasmine Cephas Jones – the original Schuyler sisters on Broadway’s Hamilton – will take the stage as well.
