Kanye West Grammys 2017 snub might be the right move after all. Since his pal, Beyonce, did not win Album of the Year (that went to Adele, instead), we all know how West might be feeling about this, right?
Back at the 2009 Video Music Awards, West ruined Taylor Swift’s moment when he snagged her trophy on stage and declared that it should be Beyonce who won. Swift’s video for You Belong With Me bested Beyonce’s Single Ladies. But that’s not the only reason why we missed the rapper’s presence at this year’s ceremony.
What Could Have Been In Kanye West Grammys 2017
For many, Kanye West Grammys 2017 ditch feels like it wasn’t the Grammy’s at all. His 2008 emotional version of Hey Mama was still the best performance at the Grammy’s. He did it after his mother’s death.
He also performed Jesus Walks at the 47th Grammy Awards. But starting in 2006, he has slowly made known his intention—to win Album of the Year. In December 2015, he started his campaign early for the award.
So, when U2 eventually won it in February 2016, Bono dedicated the award to him and told him that “you’re next.” He dropped Grammy Family next year, but to no success. He still hasn’t won the elusive Album of the Year.
He did, however, grabbed 21 of these trophies. Among them are Best Rap Song (2005, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, and 2013), Best Rap Solo Performance (2006, 2008, 2012, 2013), and Best Rap Album (2005, 2006, 2008, and 2012). He also won multiple awards in the categories of Best Rap/Sung Collaboration and Best R&B Song.
He was nominated Album of the Year two times, in 2008 (Graduation) and 2009 (Tha Carter III), but has never won it. This year, he’s up for six awards: Best Rap Performance, Best Rap/Sung Collaboration (Ultralight Beam and Famous), Best Rap Album, and Best Rap Song (Ultralight Beam and Famous).
Why Kanye Didn’t Attend Grammy’s 2017
So, why did West didn’t attend this year’s celebration and ceremony? During his October Saint Pablo tour show in Oakland, California, the rapper said he would boycott the Recording Academy if his pal Frank Ocean was snubbed. It turned out Ocean did not submit his critically acclaimed album, Blonde, for consideration.
Still, West decided to skip the awards show because he felt he has no chance of winning if he’s pitted against white people. Seemingly calling the committee racist, Kanye West Grammys 2017 rant went on and said artists should rally against such cultural bias.
