Girl group I.O.I will be disbanded at the end of January 2017. The group was simply a project group and after one year, the members will return to their respective agencies. Fans are disappointed with the I.O.I disbandment news. However, it looks like this will not be the last time they will see the girls.
I.O.I was a product of the reality show Produce 101. Out of more than 100 girls, only 11 were chosen to debut as a new girl group. In just a year, I.O.I has released two mini-albums and one unit single. Now that 2016 has come and gone, the group only has one concert and one possible album before parting ways with each other.
I.O.I Disbandment: The Future of the Members
— teamIOI (@teamIOI) January 9, 2017
Fortunately, two members will become solo artists after the I.O.I disbandment. Kim Chungha and Jeon Somi have already announced that they will go solo once I.O.I was over. Chungha, the group’s main dancer, said that one of her goals is to debut solo during the first half of 2017. Somi, on the other hand, will go back to JYP Entertainment and become an artist. This announcement debunked the rumors that Somi will debut as the tenth member of trending girl group TWICE.
The other members will be joining girl groups in their agencies. I.O.I’s leader Nayoung and only Chinese member Jieqiong will be included in the final lineup of Pledis Girlz of Pledis Entertainment. Sejeong and Mina are set to continue activities with their official girl group, gugudan. Yeonjung was also picked as the latest addition in Starship Entertainment’s newest girl group Cosmic Girls.
Meanwhile, there are also other girls who will focus on acting. Member Chaeyeon was set to hone her acting skills even more while promoting with the group DIA. Another member, Sohye, was taken under Shark and Penguin Entertainment, where she’ll prepare her skills in variety shows and become an actress.
How The Fans Reacted To The News
Many fans were sad that the promotional activities for I.O.I were over. The group will have a three-day concert starting Jan. 20 in Jangchung Gymnasium, Seoul. This might be the group’s last activity before parting ways.
The I.O.I disbandment news may have been confirmed but one thing is for sure- they will be forever remembered in their fans’ hearts.
