So much for Eminem new album updates. The first quarter of 2017 is almost over, and contrary to his fans’ expectations, the Rap God has stayed mostly quiet on that front. Eminem’s newest album still remains a big question mark. When will it finally drop?
The last time we heard any news from Mashall Mathers himself was almost half a year ago. Back in October 2016, Eminem tweeted, “Don’t worry I’m working on an album! Here’s something meanwhile,” before including an anti-Trump track. Since then he’s still kept busy. He was featured in a track, No Favors, on Big Sean’s latest album I Decided. He’s also announced his appearance for Reading & Leeds ’17 this August in the UK. But with regards to his new album, there hasn’t been much noise.
Here’s why 2017 is the perfect time for Eminem to drop a new album.
The Political Swings In The US
Ever since the election of President Donald Trump, and his subsequent inauguration, art in all forms has had new material to work with. The relevance cannot be understated: everyone from Saturday Night Live to House of Cards has made some sort of political statement. The political divide and all its consequences have been very telling.
Where does Eminem come in? Well, fans who agree with his anti-Trump sentiment would surely like to hear more of his take on the issue. It’s not just that Trump should be a scapegoat for Slim Shady’s new barbs. The intricacies of war, immigration policies, racism, and xenophobia are all ripe issues that can be tackled in a variety of ways. Eminem could go deep and serious, or he could go comical and irreverent. Either way, there’s gold waiting to be struck here.

Some of his greatest hits have touched on his family and life growing up in and about Detroit. They’ve been angry, tame, remorseful, and everything in between. But while those will always be solid choices thematically, there could be fire in Eminem going political.
Eminem Turns 45 This Year
Marshall certainly doesn’t always show his age, but the fact of the matter is, he’s turning 45 this year. For perspective, it’s been 18 years since My Name Is and The Slim Shady LP. It’s been 13 years since Mockingbird and Encore. Remember like Love The Way You Lie? That came out 7 years ago. His daughter Hailie, whom he rapped so much about in decades past, is 21 years old and in college.
If Eminem were to release another album this year it would do him good to include a reflective track or two. Age has always been something for musical artists to contend with. For someone like Eminem who’s been in the business this long, it can’t be ignored.
