31st Golden Disc Awards: Here’s What We Know So Far

The 31st Golden Disc Awards is one of the most anticipated awards show in the KPop industry. The two-day event will be held at Korea International Exhibition Center on Jan. 13 and Jan. 14. Artists will be honored in three categories, album, digital, and rookies.

The Golden Disc Awards is an annual event presented by the Music Industry Association of Korea. Founded in 1986, the show honors achievements in Korea’s music industry.

Who Will Be In The 31st Golden Disc Awards?

According to Soompi, the following artists will be a part of the show’s lineup: GOT7, BTS, EXO and INFINITE. In addition to that, SNSD’s Seohyun and CNBLUE’s Jung Yong Hwa and Hwang Chi Yeol are confirmed to host on the first day. Actress Kang Sora and Sung Si Kyung will be the emcees on the second day.

Further reports include that there will be 30 nominees each for album and digital awards. There are also 12 nominees for the rookies category. The event has also encouraged the participation of more fans by letting them vote in polls.

Some of the nominated acts were BTS, EXO, VIXX, Sistar, TWICE, AOA, Wonder Girls, Park Hyoshin, Ailee and Akdong Musician. The rookies that are nominated include Gugudan, Black Pink, NCT 127, and KNK. According to Korea Joongang Daily, the first day of the 31st Golden Disc Awards will focus on awarding the artists who stood out in digital sales. The second day, on the other hand, will be for those who dominated album sales.

What Fans Can Expect

The awards show has been around for over 30 years. And many artists have received awards from the prestigious event. Everyone has witnessed veteran acts like Super Junior, BIG BANG, SNSD and BEAST obtain the coveted Bonsang and Daesang awards. With a star-studded nomination list, a tight competition is expected, especially in the fan polls.

For those who want to watch the 31st Golden Disc Awards from the comfort of their own homes, they can tune in to JTBC and JTBC2. The show will start at 5 PM KST on Jan. 13 and 6 PM KST on Jan. 14.
