Tomb Raider Movie Releases New Photos

After the announcement of a new Tomb Raider movie, excited video game fanatics and Tomb Raider enthusiasts want to see how Director Roar Uthaug will present it. Variety reports that production companies Warner Bros. and MGM released photos of Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft.

The outlet notes that in the still images, Tomb Raider enthusiasts will see Vikander “clad in the iconic tank top and cargo pants.” She carries a piece of wood in a fighting stance. Her facial expression suggests that she is ready to fight.

The publication reports that the third movie adaptation is not a threequel to Angelina Jolie’s movies. Rather, the movie takes on the video games’ 2013 reboot, which “chronicled Croft’s origins and her first mission as an archaeologist.”

Uthaug said that fans of both the video game and the movies will see an “entirely different version of Croft.” Moreover, the director revealed that their version is more of an origin story.

Director Roar Uthaug Praises Alicia Vikander’s Performance

GQ reports that the movie will introduce Lara as a young woman who is still searching for her place in the world. Director Uthaug describes the younger Lara as a “woman with great spirit and potential.”

In Uthaug’s interview with the outlet, moviegoers will see Lara’s “struggles and journey toward becoming the person she was meant to be and earning the role of Tomb Raider.”

Moreover, Uthaug said that his version takes on a “more realistic and grounded approach” of who Lara is. “She is very much human, and we see her deal with that humanity in many ways,” said the Norwegian director.

Meanwhile, the Tomb Raider movie director praised Vikander for her performance. “Alicia is a truly great actress, and she lights up the screen as Lara Croft,” said Uthaug. Moreover, Uthaug went on to say that Vikander “brings “great depth, humanity, and passion” to the Lara Croft character.

Prior to Vikander securing the role, actresses like Jennifer Love Hewitt and Nina Dobrev got considered for the role. After a few years, an announcement was made that The Danish Girl star got the lead role. The intended Tomb Raider movie theatrical release is on March 16, 2018.
