Tom Hardy James Bond: We Might Have Found The New 007

Tom Hardy may be looking to leap into 007’s suit from Mad Max’s wastelands. The 39-year-old actor has recently expressed interest in becoming the next James Bond. Of course he’s not saying it out loud, but the desire is obvious.

Hardy’s deliberate standoffish comments followed remarks that Christopher Nolan would be great at the helm of the next James Bond movie. With the British secret service agent now approaching his 25th film, is it possible we see the two reunite to take over franchise?

Don’t Talk About It

Tom Hardy sat down with the Daily Beast to promote his FX miniseries Taboo. When the subject of Bond came up during the interview, and the idea of Christopher Nolan directing, Hardy responded enthusiastically. “Chris would be amazing!” he said, “That would be so cool.”

Then, when further pushed to comment on the rumors that he might be playing Bond, Hardy quickly shrank back. However, that’s not to say he isn’t interested. In fact, he virtually confirmed he was.

“You know, there’s a saying amongst us in the fraternity of acting, and in the fellowship of my peer group, that if you talk about it you’re automatically out of the race. So I can’t possibly comment on that one!”

Hardy quickly shifts the attention back to the idea of Christopher Nolan directing. He also offers strong praise for the latest Bond, Daniel Craig, director Sam Mendes, and producer Barbara Broccoli. Still, he can’t imagine that we missed the hints he dropped. Tom Hardy certainly has the desire to play James Bond, and his caution in keeping himself available for the role won’t fly over everyone’s heads.

Man of Action

Of course, a Tom Hardy James Bond casting wouldn’t be completely out of the blue. Over the last few years, he’s become known to be something of a man of action. His most recent films – such as Mad Max: Fury Road and The Revenant – starred him in compelling roles, and in wildly extreme environments.

With Christopher Nolan, he’s also starred in The Dark Knight Rises, Inception, and the upcoming Dunkirk. It’s safe to say that if ever the pair reunites to take over the highest-earning franchise of all time, 007 will be in for another heck of an thrill ride.
