Nope, We Might Not Have Seen The Last Of Patrick Stewart & Hugh Jackman Yet

We thought Logan was going to be the last of it. We even hyped ourselves for the bucketsful of emotion that would come with the film. Well, guess what? Patrick Stewart just hinted that we might not yet have seen the last of him. Professor X may show up in a Deadpool sequel, and Stewart – not James McAvoy – could be playing him once again.

In a recent Tripped Media report, we already discussed Patrick Stewart’s suggestion that he hasn’t said goodbye to the X-Men film franchise. Not yet, at least. Now we’re learning a little bit more.

When asked by MTV about whether Logan was truly his final bow as the Professor, Stewart answered, “I would have said yes, but the discussion just now about Deadpool makes me think, well, maybe there is a proper justification for the revival of Charles Xavier.”

 Make It Happen, Hugh

Another hint of a future Professor X appearance came during a Twitter Q&A, with both Patrick Stewart and Hugh Jackman. One Twitter user asked whether a meeting between Charles Xavier and Deadpool was ever possible.

“Oh, I would love that. Just set it up,” Stewart answers, and turning to Jackman, adds, “You have influence in these, right? Make it happen, Hugh.”

“Is it gonna happen?” the Wolverine actor replied.

“Yeah, sure.”

“I thought you were gonna announce something else.”

“Oh. Did you?”

“When you were…”

“No!” Stewart cuts him off, and the two start laughing, not saying any more on the matter.

If one were to read into the exchange, one could deduce that the two actors know more than they pretend to know. For all we know, Jackman was already hinting at Patrick Stewart appearing in a future entry into the X-Men film franchise. None would be more appropriate than the Deadpool sequel: the Merc With A Mouth would have a ball, interacting with the usually-serious Professor X. Let’s not even get started on all the fourth-wall breaks and references he could make.

The Last Of Wolverine

As for Hugh Jackman, however, it looks like we’ve really seen the last of him wielding Wolverine’s adamantium claws. Despite dozens of online reports, speculations, and fan wishes that he, too, might re-appear, all official statements from Jackman himself indicate that Logan is his swan song.

That’s too bad, because a Wolverine vs Deadpool crossover would have been epic in every way. Having Professor X there with them would be a bonus.

Still, Logan is enjoying extremely positive reviews, with one AP critic saying that Jackman is “going out in heartfelt, high-class style”.
