After a decade of waiting, Hellboy 3 director Guillermo del Toro announced it is not going to happen. Meanwhile, Hellboy creator Mike Mignola reveals the real reason why the supposed third installment did not happen.
Speculations of Hellboy’s third movie installment have been swirling around the internet for the past few years. However, this time, those speculations can now be laid to rest because there is no Hellboy 3 in the works.
Mike Mignola Disappointed With Guillermo del Toro
In Hellboy creator Mike Mignola’s interview with Le Figaro (per a /Film article), the artist provided more details on why Hellboy 3 is a no-go. The fictional superhero’s creator expressed his disappointment with Hellboy director Guillermo del Toro.
Mignola revealed that he is not happy with del Toro’s “online show.” The American comic book artist said, “I was not very happy with the way he did that, just publishing a tweet.”
Hellboy 3 Sorry to report: Spoke w all parties. Must report that 100% the sequel will not happen. And that is to be the final thing about it

The outlet notes that Mignola went on to say that he preferred to have a face-to-face discussion with del Toro and Hellboy actor Ron Perlman rather than how the Mexican film director did. Moreover, Mignola said del Toro should have just called him about it.
In addition, the comic book artist did confirm that a Mignola-del Toro tandem may not happen for Hellboy because they have, according to Mignola, “evolved in separate directions” ever since Hellboy 2 was released.
Ron Perlman Says Goodbye To Hellboy 3
On the other hand, Perlman tweeted a form of eulogy with regard to the Hellboy franchise. According to Entertainment Weekly, Perlman’s post reads: “In loving memory of the #Hellboy franchise officially biting the dust, I will take the rest of the day off Twitter.”
Prior to this, the latter report notes that del Toro posted an online poll on his Twitter account to gather whether the public still wants Hellboy 3 to happen or not. Once he gets the numbers, he will sit down with Perlman and Mignola to see how they can progress.

Hellboy’s first theatrical release was in 2004. The dark fantasy superhero, known as Hellboy, secretly works to make the world safe from paranormal threats. The second installment of the movie franchise, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, was released in 2008. Movie critics provided positive reviews for both movies. Moreover, Perlman received praises for his performance as Hellboy in both films.
Talks of a third installment intrigued the public and has long awaited for its release. Due to recent events, Hellboy 3 fans will have to accept the fact that the sequel ends in Hellboy 2. And just like Perlman, a day off from Twitter may help, one way or the other.
