Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Character Posters Go Old School

The Marvel Cinematic Universe just doesn’t know when to stop. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is headed to theaters soon, the next installment of the franchise’s Phase 3. This film brings us ever closer to the MCU’s Infinity War and the showdown with Thanos. To help rev up the excitement, director James Gunn and the cast have shared all new character posters.

Unlike our typical character posters, however, the Guardians like things a little retro. These new photos showcase all feature popping colors and styles reminiscent of old-school movie posters.

And they look pretty great, too.

 The Posters

The new Marvel Studios' "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" posters have landed!

Posted by Guardians of the Galaxy on Thursday, March 23, 2017

We’ve got all the five Guardians from the first film back: Chris Pratt as Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, and Rocket Raccoon and Baby Groot (who are voiced by Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel, respectively).

And then we’ve got some returning faces, too: Yondu, played by Michael Rooker, whose look has been revamped for his upcoming turn to the Guardians’ side. Karen Gillian also looks ready for action as Nebula, Gamora’s adopted sister.

Finally, we’ve got the newcomers: Elizabeth Debicki looks outstanding as a gold-covered Ayesha. Pom Klementieff’s Mantis, who has a couple of hilarious moments from the trailers, joins in as well. And of course, there’s Kurt Russell as Ego the Living Planet – Peter’s long lost father.

Because of the slight textures and worn-out treatment of the posters, and the way the characters are all framed, the posters look something like a baseball card collection straight out of the 1970’s.

Perhaps that’s fitting, given how we’ll be hearing a lot more of Blue Suede’s Hooked On A Feeling pretty soon.

Back In Action

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will feature our ragtag group of criminals-turned-heroes a few months after the events of the first film. Peter’s newfound “family” now aim to help him travel the cosmos in search of answers about his true parentage.

Along the way, you can expect that Yondu and Nebula hop into the picture. Fresh off being embarrassed by the Guardians in the first film, they’ll probably be aiming for some measure of revenge before circumstances force them to work together.

While this will certainly be a joyride all on its own, expect Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 to set up one or two elements of the grander MCU storyline. It’s already been confirmed that Infinity war will see Star Lord and company team up with the Avengers for the big fight.

And expect that all this will be set to the sound of Awesome Mixtape Vol. 2.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will hit theaters on May 5, 2017.
