Since Deadpool 2 has officially started production, we can now rant about the things we want and don’t want to happen in the sequel. One of the most talked-about plots in the next movie is the story of Cable, a time-traveling mutant who has a strict moral compass and who Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) has to work with or against (who knows?).
Cable has a rich backstory. In fact, it’s a movie unto its own. To make it short, Cable is the son of Cyclops (of X-Men, yes) and a clone of Jean Grey. When he was an infant, he was sent to the future and raised there as an adult. He was then sent back to the time when he would have been a child.
Deadpool 2 is leaving Cable’s backstory alone
There have been some speculations on how Deadpool 2 would attack Cable’s story. The sequel, after all, is slated to introduce the next X-Men movie. Cable’s story is so convoluted, however, that it would be next to impossible to tell his and Deadpool’s story in one movie.
According to Collider, as quoted by Gizmodo, Deadpool 2 will not tackle Cable’s story at all. In fact, they will leave it alone as a sort of being realistic, just the way they did the first Deadpool movie. Writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese explained that not touching Cable’s story will remain true to the “authenticity” of Deadpool’s storylines.
For many fans, not discussing Cable’s story would be a good tactic for the Deadpool creators. After all, the sequel is still largely about Deadpool and not about Cable. The rich story of the mutant’s life might just take away all the glitter from what’s going on with Deadpool.
Who’s playing Cable in Deadpool 2?
There are a lot of names being thrown around about who’s going to play Cable in the sequel. The producers once teased us with Mel Gibson, Dolph Lundgren, and Keira Knightley. The last name was a surprise seeing as Cable is a man, though a mutant at that.
But nothing has been louder than rumors of Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights, Carol) playing the time-traveling mutant. If that is true, we’re completely on board to see Chandler as Cable in Deadpool 2.
