Black Adam: Everything We Know About DCEU Standalone Movie Starring Dwayne Johnson

The DC Extended Universe just clinched the services of one of Hollywood’s brightest stars. Dwayne Johnson will apparently play Black Adam in a solo movie. Yes, contrary to earlier reports, Black Adam won’t just be a villain in another hero’s movie.

After the confirmation, fans are, of course, in frenzy over their favorite Hollywood actor playing the most ruthless villain and anti-hero in the history of DCEU. Johnson shared the news on Twitter a few days ago. He said that after a meeting with DC officials, he was even more excited about the “tonal shifts and developments” in the upcoming movies.

Black Adam over Shazam?

For years, Johnson has been attached to DC Comics’ Shazam, though it was only in September last year when he revealed his choice of playing Black Adam. Although he was given the option of playing the titular hero, the 2016 People’s Sexiest Man Alive said playing the villain is more interesting from an acting point of view.

Of course, typical of Johnson, he meant no disrespect for Shazam. He said it’s just more interesting to play Black Adam because there are more layers to his personality. For those of you who don’t know, Black Adam started out as a slave before becoming this super villain fans love to adore and hate.

Johnson even has a backstory from where he would pull emotions to play Black Adam. He wants the movie to show how the villain started out as a slave, then gained his powers to seek revenge for those who have been wronged.

No need to wait long

Though there is no complete story line yet for Black Adam’s solo movie, fans don’t have to wait too long. According to reports, Shazam won’t be where Black Adam will make his first appearance. It’s in another DC superhero movie by the name of Aquaman.

Aquaman, played by Jason Momoa (Khal Drogo from Game of Thrones), will appear in the Justice League movie coming this November. He would also have a solo outing in 2018.

Could we see Johnson play Black Adam in Momoa’s Aquaman? Quite possibly, yes, reports indicated.
