Avatar 2 release date — The upcoming sequel to James Cameron’s 2009 blockbuster hit just received exciting updates. In fact, Avatar 2 will be the first of many sequels that is slated for a 2018 release.
In line with this, actress Sigourney Weaver (who plays a Xenobotanist in charge of the Avatar program in the film) just dropped juicy hints, saying how everyone should keep their eyes peeled when the sequel drops soon.
Avatar 2 release date
After almost nine years of waiting, Director James Cameron announced that the sequel will hit theaters on Dec. 21, 2018. Despite the long wait for the first movie, Weaver gushed how the scripts for Avatar 2 and its upcoming sequels — confirmed to have three more afterward, as per SlashFilm—are actually “more amazing” than the first one.
“In my opinion, the three scripts I’ve read so far are many times more amazing than the first one in terms of their scope. He did a lot of the heavy lifting in the first movie, establishing the family and the relationships and the world, and now he really gets to play,” Weaver said.

Avatar 2 storyline
While a release date has already been set, a definite storyline has yet to be confirmed. However, Cameron did tease on the plot of the upcoming flicks but did not specifically say which sequel it will be part of.
“The storyline in the sequels really follows Jake and Neytiri and their children. It’s more of a family saga about the struggle with the humans,” Cameron revealed.
Weaver’s previous comments suggest, too, that Cameron has bigger plans than he did in the last film. The upcoming sequel aims to give viewers an even bigger and deeper look into the world of Pandora.
