The YOLO Life: 5 Things That Make Millennials Shout YOLO

Millennials are a crazy bunch, yes, but they do know how to live the YOLO life. For you non-millennials out there, YOLO stands for You Only Live Once, which basically means making the most out of your time here on Earth. It’s an interesting philosophy, and one you should try to live by every now and then.

If you are unsure if you’re living the YOLO life, here’s a quick rundown of five things that make millennials hashtag pictures with #YOLO.

The YOLO life: Do extreme activities

Skydiving, paragliding, cliff diving, bungee jumping, motocross… name one crazy extreme adventure, and the ultimate YOLO-er surely would have done it. After all, you cannot have the YOLO life without actually doing something crazy once in a while.

Go off the beaten path

Thinking of traveling? Why don’t you do it solo? And why don’t you go where most people haven’t gone before like Yangon, Machu Picchu, Zambia, and to some obscure European town? If you want to experience what it’s like to scream YOLO at the top of your lungs, you have to travel somewhere far and wide—a place you haven’t seen in movies, in books, and even on the internet.

Do something stupid

You cannot have a YOLO life without doing something stupid once in your life. You don’t have to live dangerously, that’s not YOLO-ing the right way. Do something stupid like singing in an open karaoke, shaking your bootie in the middle of the dance floor, walking barefoot in a parking lot because your feet hurt… it doesn’t have to be mind-blowing.

Party with friends

Nothing says YOLO than a party with your closest friends. If you try to search for #YOLO on Instagram and Facebook, you’ll notice how most of these are mundane photos with friends and family. That is, after all, what YOLO-ing is all about—spending your time with the most important people in your life.

Take thousands of photos

Millions if your phone memory allows it. The YOLO life lives through your photos. These memories will forever be etched in your mind, not to mention in your iCloud. Not to sound superficial, but how will people know you’re following the YOLO philosophy if you cannot post about it?
