Motivational speaker and TV host, Steve Harvey broke the internet last year when he made a cringe-worthy mistake while hosting Miss Universe 2015. Despite last year’s gaffe, it seems that Harvey still has his job after all, since it was announced that he will be hosting the event this year again. In case you forgot, it was Steve Harvey who made a bad call when he named the wrong person for the Miss Universe title. It spun off many controversies ever since, but Harvey remained humble amidst all this and admitted how it was his fault.
Miss Universe Steve Harvey blunder from last year
For someone who watched the event on live television last year, it was one of those times where it was just hard not to cringe. Harvey’s major faux pas at last year’s show involved announcing that the runner-up, Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez, was the event’s winner.
The Sacramento Bee recounts the incident happening this way: As soon as Gutierrez received the sash, the bouquet of flowers, and the crown whilst enjoying the celebration before the crowd, Harvey broke the moment, saying: “I have to apologize, the first runner-up is Colombia. Let me just take control of this. This is exactly what’s on the card.” He went on to explain, as he held the piece of paper, saying that Pia Wurtzbach of the Philippines was actually the winner.
“I will take responsibility for this. It was my mistake… horrible mistake,” he explained.
