Floyd Mayweather Denies Fight Against Conor McGregor

Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor is not going to happen. This is what the retired boxer’s Instagram post revealed. Meanwhile, theories and speculations continue to persist that a boxing match will happen soon.

Floyd Mayweather News Update

Floyd ‘Pretty Boy’ Mayweather confirms he is happily retired. This is what he has posted on his Instagram account, according to ESPN. Moreover, the boxer assured his 14.3 million followers that they will hear or read it straight from him if he changes his mind.

This is Mayweather’s response to speculations swirling around the internet that he will be fighting UFC’s lightweight champion, Conor McGregor. Boxing fanatics are probably disappointed with the 39-year-old’s statement. This is because there are reports that negotiations between Mayweather and McGregor are “active.”

Before Mayweather shared his statement on his Instagram page, Nevada State Athletic Commission Chairman Anthony Marnell said, “It still seems like a long shot, but when there is a lot of money involved, people tend to figure it out.” Moreover, Marnell cited that there are a lot of “cooks” meaning parties involved in making this fight a reality.

The outlet notes that UFC’s Dana White offered both McGregor and Mayweather $25 million each for the fight. A TMZ report noted that the retired boxer responded with “He’s a f–king comedian.” On the other hand, the UFC fighter demanded $100 million for the fight.

Meanwhile, Forbes reports that the negotiations may be underway but the biggest hold-up is UFC’s Dana White. The report notes that McGregor is still under contract with the fighting league for four more fights. Moreover, proceeding without White’s involvement may end up McGregor battling it in court than in the boxing arena.

The latter report notes that claims about the boxing match further intensified when McGregor cancelled an engagement at The Red Cow Moran Hotel. The hotel’s website posted a notice saying that McGregor’s Feb. 17 event cancellation is “due to circumstances beyond their control.”

Moreover, the hotel’s closing statement reads: “An unavoidable schedule change will see Conor McGregor in Las Vegas at the time of the event.” On the other hand, Mayweather’s Instagram page has been busy for the past few hours. This is because the boxer posted two more updates on his social media account.

On Mayweather’s last photo, he directly addressed to McGregor. The boxer was asking the MMA fighter to “take care of his business with UFC.” Once sorted, Floyd Mayweather said, “then have your people get in touch with my people.” From the looks of it, boxing and UFC fanatics may get to witness this much-anticipated event this year.
