In television, American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson got four nods, including Best Limited Series or Movie Made for Television. The biggest names in movies and television trooped to the Santa Monica Airport’s Barker Hangar to attend the award show hosted by Silicon Valley’s T.J. Miller.

Critics Choice Awards 2016 winners and losers

The Critics Choice Awards 2016 winners honor the year’s finest TV shows and movies. Most of the time, winning the awards here is an indication of a great chance to take home the Oscars. Ryan Gosling’s and Emma Stone’s La La Land won Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, Best Editing, Best Song, and Best Score.

Gosling and Stone, however, did not clinch the highly coveted Best Actor and Best Actress awards as those went to Casey Affleck (Manchester By The Sea) and Natalie Portman (Jackie), respectively. The Best Supporting Actor went to Mahershala Ali (Moonlight) and Viola Davis (Fences), who opted for a supporting role.

For television, Game of Thrones was a big winner again as the Best Drama Series, beating Netflix’s Stranger Things and HBO’s Westworld. Again, no GoT actors won the Best Actor or Actress in a Drama Series. Instead, these trophies went to Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul) and Evan Rachel Wood (Westworld).

For The Walking Dead fans, you’ll be happy to know that all those sleepless nights about Negan are worth it. Jeffrey Dean Morgan won Best Guest Performer in a Drama Series for his riveting role in the popular zombie series.

Again, The Voice was awarded The Best Reality Competition Series while The Late Late Show with James Corden got the Best Talk Show. Other noteworthy awards are: Ryan Reynolds (Entertainer of the Year), Viola Davis (See Her Award), and Outlander (Most Binge-worthy Show of 2016). The last one was voted on by fans.

Who should have been the Critics Choice Awards 2016 winners?

Almost all winners during the Critics Choice Awards were the same ones predicted by movie analysts months before. For Oscar predictions, they are betting on Manchester By The Sea and even Denzel Washington’s Fences. The actor is also poised to take home the Oscar’s trophy next year.

Other frontrunners for the Best Picture are 20th Century Women, Arrival, Moonlight, and Tom Hanks’ Sully. It was a big surprise, of course, that Hanks did not take home the Best Actor at the Critics Choice Awards 2016.
