Travelling Solo With A Broken Heart: How To Make The Most Of It

The word travel may have its definitive meaning in the dictionary, but for some it connotes freedom or for others, it’s a way to mend their broken heart. The need to get away — travelling solo to have that control in your life is what makes traveling exciting for people, especially for those whose hearts got broken.

A lot of people see traveling as their getaway from the office and the stress of everyday living. Heading out to the unknown, to another country is what makes it exciting. However, for some, it is also a means to heal their broken hearts.

Travelling Solo Lets You Rediscover Yourself

Nikki Godwin cited a few reasons why traveling can be good for the broken hearted. Immediately, one can say that going to a place where no one knows you, is a great escape. However, you should not think of it that way. Rather you should take it as an opportunity to grow and learn.

Learn what you may say. Travel will allow you to rediscover yourself. This will let you nurture a trait you’ve forgotten: become independent. Being in a relationship for years, your idea of “me” is, over time, changed to “we.” Now that you are single, you need to start thinking about yourself again and traveling can help you with that.

When you travel alone, you are not obliged to ask anyone what they want. This is because what YOU want, need and like are what’s important. Since you don’t have your family around, traveling solo will push you out of your comfort zone. You explore what’s around you. Believe it or not, as you discover your surroundings, you also discover or re-discover a lot of yourself.

Travelling Solo Lets You Move On And Move Forward

A CNN correspondent interviewed 25-year-old Elizabeth Mecklenberg about her solo trip to Hawaii. The Colorado native broke up with her partner of four years. Mecklenburg said her trip allowed her to focus on herself and understand what she wanted to do with her life.

“Traveling reminded me that it is OK to do what I want,” said Mecklenburg. Moreover, her travel allowed her to move on and move forward with her life. Moving forward also means looking forward to building new friendships. Going to places where no one knows you, sort of gives you a fresh start. You will meet a lot of amazing people while you travel.

It can be backpackers like you who are looking for an adventure or even the locals, who can show you around the city or country. This will allow you to restart your life and create new memories with your new-found friends.

You see traveling can mend your broken heart but you also have to open yourself on what the place can offer you. Discover the place and yourself. So, where’s your next travel?
