Travelling on your own can be quite daunting. The idea of going somewhere all by yourself may have excited you at first. But now that you’re looking at plane tickets and plotting travel dates, you’re kind of wondering whether this is going to be a good idea. Well, here are tips for travelling solo that can get you by and can help you throughout your trip.
Tips For Travelling Solo: Book Everything
Though being spontaneous is probably the best way to enjoy yourself, it’s still a good idea to book everything first. One of the best tips for travelling solo is to book everything before you embark on your trip. That goes for travel fares (whether you go via land, air or sea) and accommodations. You don’t want to shell out too much cash for transportation fares and find yourself without a roof above your head when you get there.
So book everything beforehand. That way, when you get there, you won’t have to worry about anything and where to stay.
You don’t want to spend so much or run out of cash before and during your trip. There are ways to enjoy without shelling out so much money. Here are a few:
- Book your fare a month before (or even earlier). You might even get some early travel discount promos.
- Experience local food rather than international or heavy cuisine
- Shop and bargain at local markets for some souvenirs rather than branded items

Stuff like these can save you money so by the end of your trip, you’re not completely broke.
Let’s face it. You’re traveling alone. You will be responsible for your own self. So how do you stay safe?
First off, carry identification with you at all times. An ID in your wallet will help. Or you may put a simple bag tag in your backpack so when something happens, someone would know who you are and who to call to report an incident.
Second, stay away from dangerous places. You’ll know by the looks of it if it’s an area you’re not supposed to go. Stay to public and open places rather than dimly lit empty areas.
Lastly, carry yourself with confidence. People take advantage of others when they know they’re easily fooled. So don’t look like you’re scared or curious of something so much. Make sure to look like you know what you’re doing and blend in.
If you’re going on a trip alone, be sure to come back with lots of memories and stories to share. Go on a trip because you want to enjoy yourself or take in a change of scenery. Make sure to choose some activities you haven’t tried before but also make sure they’re safe. Take lots of photos (provided the locals allow it) and immerse yourself in the culture of your destination. Going on a trip isn’t just for fun. It’s a way of educating yourself too.
