Theo James has always kept his privacy from the online world. James doesn’t even have his own Facebook or Twitter account. Which is why fans continue to speculate on the actor’s private life despite this. In a recent interview, the Divergent star set the record straight regarding his relationship. And he also opens up about reasons why he won’t be seen in the next installment of the Veronica Roth movie adaptation.
Theo James slams engagement rumors
For months, speculations were rife surrounding James and his girlfriend Ruth Kearney’s real relationship status. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the 32-year-old actor finally spoke up about his love life. “I was never engaged,” James said matter-of-factly.
The actor did not elaborate any further, though it seems there is little to be said. He was previously also linked to Divergent co-star Shailene Woodley. Apparently, those were just rumors too and the actor did not even talk about that during the sit down discussion with the outlet.
Theo James interview: Actor explains absence on Divergent TV movie
The Irish actor also opened up about his absence on the next Divergent TV movie. It was previously announced that Divergent: Ascendant is the final film in the franchise. Moreover, it will be released as a TV movie instead of hitting box offices. James has finally cleared the air that he will not be involved once the film hits the small screens this year.
“No, I won’t be a part of that,” James told ET. “It’s a shame not to finish the last movie but I think the studio wanted to take it into a different area, and it’s evolving into something that I don’t think I’ll be a part of,” he said.
Apart from the TV movie, rumors have been making rounds saying that a TV spinoff could happen. However, there has been no word from the production company whether fans will see the original stars in the potential TV series.
James’ exit from the Divergent series afforded him more time to focus on his project with actress Kate Beckinsale. The movie Underworld: Blood Wars is the fifth film in the franchise. According to Collider, the film also stars Game of Thrones alumni Charles Dance and Tobias Menzies, who played the roles of Tywin Lannister and Edmure Tully, respectively.
