In the KPop industry, there is this phenomenon called the seven-year jinx. This is when a KPop group experiences drastic changes after seven years. It could be a change in the lineup or a group transferring to another agency. And for girl group SISTAR contract, it seems like all fans are on the edge to find out if the Summer Queens will renew with Starship Entertainment.
SISTAR debuted in 2010 and is Starship Entertainment’s first idol act. The group consists of four members: Bora, Hyolyn, Soyou and Dasom. They portray the image of “sexy and healthy” instead of “cute and bubbly” compared to other girl groups. Most of their comeback songs are released in the summer, hence the moniker “KPop’s Queens of Summer”. Their most popular tracks include Alone, Give It To Me, Touch My Body, and I Like That.
SISTAR Contract: What Will Happen Next?
A contract between an agency and idol group usually lasts for six to eight years. Once the contract ends, the members can renew or go their own way. There are groups who renewed like Girls’ Generation and Girl’s Day. However, there are groups who experienced changes before their seven-year mark. One example is BEAST, who lost member Hyunseung back in April 2016. Another is the girl group Rainbow, who disbanded in November 2016 after the members chose not to renew with DSP Media.
Fans are already on the lookout for other groups who are yet to renew this year. These groups include Teen Top, INFINITE and SISTAR, who all made their debut on 2010.
SISTAR contract will expire in June 2017. Although there are no signs from the quartet that they will disband, fans couldn’t help but feel anxious regarding the group’s contract renewal.
SISTAR Comeback: A Possibility?
SBS reported that SISTAR is currently preparing for a comeback. There are no details yet, but the report states that the group has set the song release on the first half of 2017. Fans can expect a new album and might see teaser images and videos from the group soon.
In addition to that, it was also reported that SISTAR contract renewal with Starship Entertainment is pretty high. SISTAR was somewhat quiet in 2016 but they achieved several milestones last year. For one, their latest mini-album Insane Love was a hit in music charts. In addition to that, SISTAR collaborated with world-renowned DJ and producer Giorgio Moroder for the song One More Day.
