Shameless cast Emmy Rossum has raked up a hot topic yet again in the entertainment industry. The actress who is famous for her portrayal of Fiona Gallagher in the TV series Shameless is asking the makers to hike her fees in comparison with her male co-star William H. Macy.
Shameless is a successful TV series which is running on its seventh season. Emmy Rossum is demanding the same pay as per her popular co-star Macy. Since much speculations have begun regarding equal pay, William H. Macy responded to the issue and expressed his support for Rossum.
As the topic boils over yet again, let’s take a look at other women celebrities who have voiced their demands to be paid equally like their male counterparts.
House of Cards- Robin Wright
Anyone who follows the show would know that Robin Wright is as instrumental in the series as Kevin Spacey. They both were seen as power couple in the US version of the TV series House of Cards. Wright raised her voice to ask for the same pay as that of Spacey. She said, “I was looking at statistics and Claire Underwood’s character was more popular than [Frank’s] for a period of time. So I capitalized on that moment. I was like, ‘You better pay me, or I’m going to go public – And they did.”
Jennifer Lawrence- American Hustle
Jennifer Lawrence created a huge uproar in the equal pay debate after some information from Sony Pictures was leaked. The leak revealed that male counterparts in the American Hustle were making much more money than the female counterparts. This revelation angered Lawrence and led her to boldly point out the injustice.
She said, “I failed as a negotiator because I gave up early. I was busy worrying about coming across as a brat and not getting my fair share, but I’m over trying to find the ‘adorable’ way to state my opinion and still be likable!”
Post her comments, many celebs voiced their support to the issue including Julia Roberts, Bradley Cooper, Carey Mulligan!
Charlize Theron- Snow White And The Huntsman
Charlize Theron demanded a higher pay as compared to what her male co-star Liam Hemsworth was making. She didn’t have to fight for it, the makers happily obliged. She says, “I have to give them credit because once I asked, they said yes. They did not fight it. And maybe that’s the message: That we just need to put our foot down. If you’re doing the same job, you should be compensated and treated in the same way,” reports InStyle.
Here’s hoping that Shameless cast member Emmy Rossum demands are looked into and the channel continues to keep all its main actors on board.
