The year 2016 was notorious for taking a lot of beloved actors and celebrities. Now, the year 2017 has claimed another celebrity, Battlestar Galactica actor Richard Hatch. The 71-year-old actor passed away on Feb. 7.
Richard Hatch is famously known for his role in Battlestar Galactica series as Captain Apollo. He was struggling with pancreatic cancer and spent the last few days in a hospice. He has also played the role of Tom Zarek in the 2003 remake of Battlestar Galactica.

Richard Hatch started off as a theater artist and then moved to television in 1970. His most popular role on TV is that of Inspector Dan Robbins on the detective series The Streets of San Francisco. In 1979, Hatch got the nomination for Best Actor in a Television Series – Drama.
The actor’s most recent award was that of Best Guest Actor – Drama for Pairings at WON awards. There were several guest appearances made by the actor in projects like ‘Murder, She Wrote’, ‘The Love Boat’ and ‘Fantasy Island’, reports TMZ.
Earlier in 2015, the actor revealed that he was undergoing treatment for pancreatic cancer. He said, “I am more than optimistic about a satisfactory outcome, as indeed is the medical team. I am continuing to focus on my professional commitments and will shortly be recording Jeffrey Bernard Is Unwell for BBC Radio 4.” John is survived by his fourth wife and two children.
Other Big Losses In 2017
Early in 2017, John Hurt who played the role of a drug addict in Midnight Express passed away on Jan. 27. He was 77 years old. His other major projects were Alien, Elephant Man, 1984. The big face of television, Mary Tyler Moore (80) also passed away on Jan. 25.
One of the biggest losses this year is the death of NCIS LA star Miguel Ferrer. For the longest time, there were countless speculations about his absence from the show. Tragically, it was known later that he was suffering from throat cancer. George Clooney also was bereaved upon the loss of his cousin.

Indian actor Om Puri also left a huge void in both the Indian film industry and Hollywood. He died of a heart attack at the age of 66. Other celebrities who left a void in the entertainment industry are Francine York, singer Buddy Greco, another singer Maggie Roche, Dick Gautier, and WWE star Jimmy Snuka.
