Oscars 2017: Why You Won’t See Pregnant Natalie Portman

Hollywood star Natalie Portman will not be attending Oscars 2017. Apparently, the actress cancelled her upcoming appearance due to her pregnancy. She is nominated for Best Actress for her role as Jackie Kennedy. In a statement, the 35-year-old actress dished about her absence from Hollywood’s biggest night.

Over the weekend, Portman also opted to skip the Independent Spirit Awards which she was also nominated in. “Due to my pregnancy, I am unable to attend the Academy Awards and the Independent Spirit Awards,” she said. “I feel so lucky to be honored among my fellow nominees and wish them the most beautiful of weekends.”

Portman has been dressing up her baby bump while promoting the film as the awards season drew closer. She made an appearance at the Golden Globes red carpet, as well ass the cover of Vanity Fair’s Hollywood issue. The Star Wars alum dished how she dresses more for substance that style at this time in her life..

“I think you can certainly get away with things that are more comfortable,” Portman told People and Entertainment Weekly Network (PEN) at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. “You always have a good excuse to want to be comfortable.”

Natalie Portman Nominated For Best Actress

Portman is up for best female lead at the Spirit Awards for her portrayal of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis in Pablo Larrain’s Jackie. The film is also up for best feature and editing. Portman’s role has earned her positive reviews, and several nominations for best actress. In the film, she deals with the immediate aftermath of the assassination of her husband, President John F. Kennedy. Interstingly, the film is also up for best score and costume design.

During the awards season, Portman won the Critics’ Choice Award for her performance and has been up for a Golden Globe, a BAFTA, and a Screen Actors’ Guild Award.

When Portman won an Oscar for her work in Black Swan in 2011, she was pregnant with now five-year-old son Aleph. The actress and her French choreographer husband Benjamin Millepied are expecting their second baby together. Last November, Portman told Matt Lauer on Today that she is expecting to give birth in the spring.

Oscars 2017 kicks off live on ABC on Feb. 26 at 7 PM ET on ABC. There is a pre-show and a special ceremony at 8:30 PM.
