Lena Dunham made news when she graced the covers of Glamour magazine in her real true self. She praised the magazine for not editing out her cellulite. Her ticket to fame was multiple Emmy and Golden Globe winner show Girls. She is not only an actress but also a writer, producer, and director. She is such a character that she is both loved and loathed.
Lena Dunham is not known to make safe statements. She often had her foot in her mouth episodes about controversial issues. Her recent cover photo shoot with Nylon Magazine drew a lot of attention. But she seems unfazed by all the negativity that is coming her way.
Lena Dunham Bares Her Heart Out About Body Shaming
The brain behind Girls took to Instagram to speak about how she is confident about her body. Lena Dunham says that now that she is 30 years old, she doesn’t care how the world sees her. The caption of her picture reads, “For the first time in my career, posing for pictures feels honest and joyful. Maybe that’s being 30. Maybe that’s demanding to be seen for who I am, teensy stomach moles on pale rounded stomach and all…”
Fabienne: I was looking at myself in the mirror. Butch: Uh-huh? Fabienne: I wish I had a pot. Butch: You were lookin' in the mirror and you wish you had some pot? Fabienne: A pot. A pot belly. Pot bellies are sexy. Butch: Well you should be happy, 'cause you do. Fabienne: Shut up, Fatso! I don't have a pot! I have a bit of a tummy, like Madonna when she did "Lucky Star," it's not the same thing. Butch: I didn't realize there was a difference between a tummy and a pot belly. Fabienne: The difference is huge. Butch: You want me to have a pot? Fabienne: No. Pot bellies make a man look either oafish, or like a gorilla. But on a woman, a pot belly is very sexy. The rest of you is normal. Normal face, normal legs, normal hips, normal ass, but with a big, perfectly round pot belly. If I had one, I'd wear a tee-shirt two sizes too small to accentuate it. Butch: You think guys would find that attractive? Fabienne: I don't give a damn what men find attractive. It's unfortunate what we find pleasing to the touch and pleasing to the eye is seldom the same. -Pulp Fiction
In the Nylon magazine cover shoot, she is seen sporting a floral jacket and a swimsuit. She also looks very flexible twirling her legs in the air showing off her body confidently. Her confidence also reflects in her bio on Instagram: “All the s*** that I’ve been through only made me more of an assassin/I kill ’em, I kill ’em, I kill ’em with compassion.”
Controversial Statement about Abortion
Dunham had to issue an apology when she made an insensitive statement about abortion. She was speaking about a time when she in a Planned Parenthood seminar. She was asked to talk about her abortion story even though she never had one done reports ET.
During the time Dunham said she wished she had an abortion done. She later apologized saying, “I would never, ever intentionally trivialize the emotional and physical challenges of terminating a pregnancy. My only goal is to increase awareness and decrease stigma.”
Dunham also recently spoke about her show Girls. She now wishes that she would have cast a Black girl instead of making a story on all white girls. She went on to say that she would never do “another show that starred four white girls” as spoken to The Age.
Lena Dunham cannot be slotted as a white or black character. She definitely rules the gray territory. One thing is true about her- she wears her heart on her sleeve and is not afraid to show the world what she is made of.
The Final season of Girls starts on Feb 2, 2017 on HBO.
