Fans of Grey’s Anatomy waiting for Sara Ramirez to return on TV may have gotten their hearts broken. Ramirez just took offense about ABC’s The Real O’Neals’ joke about bisexuals. She said she would have to take her “brand” someplace else.
On the Jan. 17 episode, Noah Galvin’s openly gay character said that bisexuality has similarities to hardships of “webbed toes” and “money problems. This came just a year after Galvin gave an interview and accused Eric Stonestreet of “playing a caricature… of a stereotype” as Modern Family‘s Cam. ABC was so angered by this that they threatened to cut Season 2.
Sara Ramirez Disappointed At ABC
Sara Ramirez took to Twitter to voice out her disappointment at ABC for allowing such a joke on The Real O’Neals. Tagging both the ABC Network and The Real O’Neals, Ramirez advised them to “own it, address it, clarify it, [and] empower our #Queer #Bisexual youth & community w/ accurate positive reflections.”
The actress said that after working with the network for more than 10 years, she feels “truly disheartened & disappointed quite frankly.” “I will invest my brand where I’m respected.” Ramirez is admittedly a bisexual and even her Grey’s Anatomy character, Callie, played a bisexual on screen. She linked her tweet to a petition on Change.org that called on ABC Network to “End Biphobia and Bi-erasure on The Real O’Neals.”
Does this mean that Ramirez will no longer reprise her role as Callie on Grey’s Anatomy? When she left for New York at the end of last season, it wasn’t supposed to be permanent. But it looks to be that way now, if we’re to believe her tweet about taking her brand somewhere else.
Fans Hoped Sara Will Be Back
Even after her departure as Dr. Callie Torres, many fans hoped that Ramirez will reprise her role because her exit wasn’t even a planned one. The actress played Callie for 10 years.
Series creator Shonda Rimes said she had a different plan on how Callie should have left the show. Still, they were lucky they shot her last scene while she was following girlfriend Penny to the Big Apple. Ramirez said she left Grey’s Anatomy because she needed some welcome time off.
Though she left the series and the network, Ramirez didn’t burn any bridge. In fact, in a statement following her departure, she said she will continue conversing with Rimes and she wishes the series nothing but the best.
Now, it feels like the hope to see Sara Ramirez back in the series has finally died down. Whatdo you think? Comments below!
