The internet is never a safe ground, and it is unfortunate that the POTUS’ son Barron Trump became its latest victim again. Previously, people poked fun at the 10-year-old saying how he could be autistic. More recently, a writer from the popular comedy series Saturday Night Live was suspended because of an insensitive tweet. What truly transpired and why is the young boy getting so much flak? Read on to learn more.
Barron Trump called a ‘homeschool shooter’
A report from The New York Times reveals how SNL writer Katie Rich was sacked after writing an offensive tweet. She later deleted the tweet, deactivated her account, but then reactivated it again on Monday. She posted once again, saying how she wanted to “sincerely apologize” for the “insensitive” tweet and “deeply regret” doing so.
In a now-deleted post, Rich tweeted that Barron “will be this country’s first homeschool shooter.” This sparked outrage on social media from across the political spectrum, with many urging a boycott of the comedy show.
Trump supporters were particularly upset, and multiple online petitions called on NBC to fire Rich. The petitions have reached over 90,000 signatures. In the past, Donald Trump had already criticized SNL, but this time, he did not comment on this issue.
I sincerely apologize for the insensitive tweet. I deeply regret my actions & offensive words. It was inexcusable & I'm so sorry.

Chelsea Clinton defends Barron Trump
After the incident, former first daughter Chelsea Clinton took to Facebook to defend the young Trump. She implored everyone to leave Barron alone.
“Barron Trump deserves the chance every child does — to be a kid,” Clinton wrote on Facebook. Her post received more than 120,000 reactions and was shared close to 11,000 times. “Standing up for every kid also means opposing POTUS policies that hurt kids,” she added.
As a child of a former president, Clinton was not spared from being criticized in the media. Clinton also fell prey to offensive remarks. When she was 12, her appearance was mocked by the conservative pundit Rush Limbaugh. Limbaugh insulted her, calling her “the White House dog.” It makes sense that she, now a mom herself, would not want the same for other children.
